Utopia project

Paragraph one: My dystopia

For my dystopian society, it all started when scientists were allowed to destroy an asteroid in space using missiles and rockets. The scientist's attempt went wrong and brought danger to the whole world. When the asteroid fell and broke apart, the animals on earth developed a mutation as a result of the asteroid's parts hitting the surface of the earth. These monstrous creatures became massive and became harmful. They started attacking people, driving humanity to the verge of dying out. And these creatures wiped out almost 90% of the human population.

Paragraph two: From dystopia to utopia

My utopia is called Safe haven because the underground world we now live in is protecting us from dangerous creatures above us. Each group of 5-10 people has their own bunker with a radio to connect with the other bunkers in case of any emergencies like a creature breaking into the bunkers. Along with this there is also a DIY mini hospital that is used if there are any people within the community that need to be taken care of. Along with a school, children can still get an education. If you need to go to another room, there is a tunnel that is connected to every bunker in case there is an emergency. My utopia is a democratic government system that allows people in the community to vote for who they believe will lead their community well. The leaders check on each bunker to see if they are okay. If any bunker needs more supplies, the 3 strongest people will be in charge of going to search for supplies, and people get out into the dangerous world. Each member in the community has a role in doing things. One will be two leaders who run the community. The strong and brave people seek food, water, medicine, and other supplies in stores, abandoned buildings, and other places. Because there are creatures around, searching is dangerous, but it's needed for survival.  Also, babysitters that can watch the young children. People who keep the bunkers clean and cook dinner for their group. Nurses/doctors to take care of people who are sick and/or injured. Finally, teachers that help kids do fun activities like art, reading, math, science, sewing etc. The leaders call in every bunker for a meeting every week to give any updates and to see how everything is going for everyone.

Paragraph three: Journal entries

June 8th 16th, 2092

It's been a week since the apocalypse. I got selected to be part of bunker 7 and I'm put with this lovely group of people. They’re brave, unlike me. I’m terrified. The thought of dangerous creatures above me destroying the world makes me want to cry. I can't live like this. I’m miserable. I miss my old life. I miss my friends and family. I wish They were here with me. I wish I can at least know if they're alive, safe in one of the other bunkers. I feel useless here “I want to do something that matters” (Mandel 10), The only thing I know is to draw., but how does that help my community? I guess I should get some sleep. I'll write back if I have any updates.

Wow, I haven't written in my journal for months! I’ve been so busy helping the community. I am glad how far I’ve come in my journey of the post-apocalypse. Safe haven has grown so much since June. We are able to create a mini school where the children are able to learn underground and still run everything smoothly while keeping everybody safe. I have finally found my purpose here. I was able to use my art hobby and use it by becoming an art teacher at the school. This was the best decision I have ever made. Despite still having an apocalypse, I’m still happier than ever.
