My first-time ice skating.
This weekend, on Friday night me and my best friend decided to go ice skating since I needed to do something that I have never done. For some background context, I’ve always wanted to ice skate because when I was younger, I watched figure skaters competing in the Olympics. But I have always had this big fear that I would hurt myself while skating, like accidentally cutting my leg or something with the sharp blade on the bottom of the skate or even hitting my head on the ice that will crack my head open. I’ve always thought I'm somewhat of an unlucky person because something unfortunate always happens to me, so I thought it would be best to keep it safe and not ever ice skating until last week. I thought this was a perfect opportunity to do something new while also facing my fear. My friend drove to the skating rink. We graded our skates and headed to the rink. Luckily my friend knew how to skate, so she was planning on teaching me. She grabbed my hand while I was getting into the rink, and I got a shaky. My friend then told me to relax my body and breathe. I did as she said, and it helped me feel better. She started to teach me the basics, like walking on ice and having balance. I fell lots of times, but it was okay because I didn't get hurt. The more I practiced the better I got. I would say I picked up on the moves pretty fast. I was confident enough to skate in the middle of the rink instead of the side. Me and my friend were skating around and talking for 30 minutes, and I realized how fun ice skating is and I wish I had skated earlier in my life. I also didn't get hurt while being at the rink, so that was a plus. If you’re ever scared of trying something new because it's out of your comfort zone, taking risks and stepping out can help you grow. If I can do it, you can certainly do it.
